Switching to cruelty-free products is one of the best ways to say no to animal testing. PETA is an organization which audits brands worldwide. 

Companies may be certified by PETA under one of two designations:

• Global animal test–free recognizes companies and brands that have verified that they and their suppliers do not conduct, commission, pay for, or allow any tests on animals for their ingredients, formulations, or finished products anywhere in the world and that they will never do so in the future.
• Global animal test–free and vegan recognizes companies and brands that meet the same requirements and whose entire product line is free of animal-derived ingredients. These companies are truly cruelty-free.

It’s completely free to be certified under these categories, and once approved, companies may choose to use PETA’s global logos. 

However, some companies try to tell us that animal testing serves a purpose: tests are being performed on animals to make sure that ingredients and products are safe enough for humans. The truth is there are alternatives to animal testing for ingredient safety. For example, there are cultured cell tissues as well as computer models. Science favors these alternatives because they’re more conclusive, but animal testing has the advantage of being low-cost. 

To formulate their products, companies can choose from a list of ingredients that are already proven to be safe. Sometimes it’s all about the bottom line. 

By supporting cruelty-free companies instead of the ones who choose to test on animals, you’re sending the whole industry a message in the only language they speak: money. It’s the best way to Vote with your Dollars! Some governments around the world have already banned animal testing for cosmetics on finished products and ingredients. The European Union, Israel, India, Norway, Switzerland, South Korea, and New Zealand have all banned animal testing. 

A lot of times cruelty free brands are also healthier for you too. So by looking for the PETA or Leaping Bunny logo, you could be making a choice which lessens your toxic load.
