Superstar SPFs for Summer

Here comes the Sun….

The best thing you can do to keep the youthful glow in your skin is wear sunscreen and stay hydrated. Summer sunshine has arrived and it will be high in the sky all day long, it is important that to understand the importance of sunscreen. Sunscreen today is the most crucial part of any skincare routine, and should not be overlooked.

During the day, sun rays are shining down and kissing our skin- it is impossible to avoid, even the most careful will be touched by the sun. While having a tan is a PEELING for some, using a good sunscreen can help you avoid burning, hyperpigmentation, melasma and even skin cancer. While the longtime exposure to direct sunlight increases the chances for these effects, having a brief exposure can also bring damage to skin cells if one has not applied sunscreen. Think fine lines, sun spots, dehydration.

Being the fair Scottish girl that I am, I am always looking for a great face and body sunscreen.  I also highly recommend ones with Zinc Oxide as the sunscreen so that you have a physical barrier, not just a chemical one. Mineral sunscreens can be finely milled so they don’t leave you with a whitish residue- I’ve been playing with two tinted face sunscreens lately to give you a comparison. It’s the no makeup makeup!

Ilia C Beyond Triple Serum SPF 40

If you want a SHEER tint sunscreen that goes on effortlessly, this is your bottle of happiness. I’ve been using the medium tint to give my skin a little “kissed by the sun glow” and it works like a charm. Be forewarned- there is no color coverage to conceal spots, that’s what concealer is for, but this does give you a boost to your skin tone. Ilia C Beyond Triple Serum SPF 40 is a Vitamin C, mineral SPF, and niacinamide serum—combined together for the first time in a stabilized, water-free formula. I think it feels like a dry oil, an almost nothing weight to it. It is available in three translucent tones that disappear into skin with a sheer, glowy finish and no white cast.

With names so similar, you might ask what is the difference…… the weight and coverage, read on.

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40

If you want to super boost your sunscreen, this is skin tint magic. I have been using it for a while and at first the dropper style bottle irritated me but then I saw the genius of it. The dropper measures the amount you need to use which means no waste! When it says that it appears lighter to help you apply the SPF correctly- truth but also super handy to help you  get the edges of your skin.  Just wait a second and it will dry down to the exact color tint you selected, again, magic!

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40  fuses skincare, makeup and sun protection. This serum with non-nano zinc oxide provides weightless mineral protection from UVA, UVB, UVC, and blue light with no white cast. Upon application, the formula will appear lighter to help guide you in applying SPF. After 30-60 seconds, it will dry down to its true tone. Available in 30 flexible shades that adapt to multiple skin tones.

Ilia is free of silicones, oil, fragrance, and chemical sunscreen, and clinically tested to be non-comedogenic and safe for sensitive skin. I’ve tested the sunscreen factor by gardening and I’m happy to report- no burns! Also, my garden looks fantastic:)

And just in case you are wondering….yes, I still love Arbonne and use the products daily. Although Arbonne has decided to discontinue the cosmetics line (sad face), do not let that stop you from enjoying the skincare or nutrition. I have been exploring other natural beauty brands to bring you the best of the best for your non toxic makeup bag:) Stay tuned for more……
